Who or what is the Kingdom Hearts Sephiroth, really? In KH2 much is made of him supposedly being the dark part of Cloud's heart, yet in the game where Zack features, Birth By Sleep, he says he wants to become a hero "like another," and it has been officially confirmed that Zack meant Sephiroth. This line tells us so much, both that KH Sephiroth is a real person and not literally the darkness of Cloud, and that somewhere along the way, he, like his FF7 counterpart, was a hero. What happened? There is so much we don't know, so many blanks to fill in. I will be playing KH Sephiroth similar to how I wrote him in stories some years ago, as a very strange man who claims to be Cloud because he once fell to his darkness and sees that Cloud is following the same path he did, and that instead of trying to push Cloud to accept the darkness as it seemed, he is actually trying to get Cloud to accept things about himself that he refuses to accept, as well as to use reverse psychology to get Cloud to decide he's better than to fall to the darkness and to choose the light instead.
Also, his wings are blue, not black. And another thing Birth By Sleep tells us is that Sephiroth had them as a hero and everyone knows it. Just the presence of one large feather is enough to signal he's there.
What happened to Zack? Well, judging from these vital scraps of information, I'm going to say Sephiroth observed Zack's behavior and his desire to be a hero, and when Phil still wouldn't help him, Sephiroth swooped down, took Zack with him, and started training him himself. As for where Zack is now, that has yet to be revealed. But it's vital to this Sephiroth's backstory.

CONTACT METHOD: This journal, LuckyLadybug on Discord
THREAD-JACKING: Sure, if everyone involved agrees
FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: I would love for characters to have heard of him; he makes portals and can travel to other worlds, so I headcanon he's been all over the place. I also don't mind if characters know of him through the video games if the idea is that the games were made based on real events and people. But as far as saying he's fictional, no.
BACKTAGGING: Yes!
AVOIDED TOPICS: Decapitation
PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: She/Her
IC CHARACTERISTICS
CURRENT CANON POINT: Post-KH2
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Six feet seven inches, very well-built and muscular, with beautiful knee-length silver hair always perfectly groomed, blue-green eyes (some sources say his eyes are blue in KH, but they look green to me and they're always green on the merch), and insanely long eyelashes like his counterpart (Sephiroth, why. Lol). He has three sapphire-blue wings, one large one on his right shoulder and two thinner ones on his lower back. Also like his counterpart, he never closes his coat.
DEMEANOR: Calm, cool, and collected. Polite and congenial in general, but doesn't take nonsense, can be intimidating, and isn't shy about being sarcastic if he has a comment to make. If your name is Cloud, he loves to tease and troll you. If he sees someone else is good for it, he'll troll them too.
ABILITIES: Flight, teleportation (limited to line of sight on Agra-10), energy beam spheres (max range 10 feet on Agra-10), mini meteor showers (only about five feet around him on Agra-10, with smaller meteors), Heartless Angel (a highly draining attack, causing deep fatigue on Agra-10)
MEDICAL INFORMATION: Healthy and will register as a normal human despite his powers. This Sephiroth has not been infused with Jenova cells and won't know what the heck a Jenova even is.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Sephiroth is pretty chill with everything. Except maybe someone gleefully talking about falling to the darkness and exploiting those powers. It's far too painful a subject for him.
OTHER: The two lower wings are coming from his lower back, above his hips but not on his hips. (Think Dissidia NT Safer Sephiroth, who has his legs.) Please no jokes about the wings' location. That used to happen years ago in the fandom, at least, before we had Dissidia NT Seph to show what is likely the truth about the KH one's wing placement. The two lower wings are most likely a Safer reference.
IC PERMISSIONS
MENTAL: They can read his mind, but he's far too strong mentally and emotionally to be coerced (except by the Agrii, of course)
MIMICRY: He would probably scoff and sneer at it and mock the attempt. I doubt anyone could do it that well, especially if they try to fight. The jig would be up immediately. The only one who could successfully mimic him, most likely, is ... another Sephiroth. And even at that, FF and KH Sephs are different in some key personality aspects and I feel like FF Seph would think it beneath him to imitate his counterpart anyway.
VIOLENCE: Cue up countless videos of people who tried taking on KH Seph and were defeated within several seconds.
MAGIC: Magic attacks don't seem to work on him, going by the fights in KH. But one could likely limit his usage of Fire attacks by using Water or Ice. (Then he'll probably use Heartless Angel on you instead. Oh, lucky you.)
DEBATE: He's willing.
OTHER / NOTES: He's not terribly physically affectionate and would be shocked if anyone tried to hug him. He would also very likely be good at singing, but good luck actually trying to get him to the karaoke machine. (Make it a challenge and he might do it for giggles just to prove he can.)
His voice is George Newbern.

Series name: Kingdom Hearts
Canon notes: Original canon, post-KH2
Species: Human
Age: 30
Arrival Condition: Healthy
History: https://www.khwiki.com/Sephiroth
I don’t feel either Wiki really describes his personality accurately, but this one is better than the other one. I did not pick up a vibe of cold ruthlessness from either KH1 or KH2, nor does he seem to believe his power is stronger than absolutely anyone else’s. He says only Cloud can eliminate him, indicating he feels Cloud is either on his level or stronger than him.
(All of this paragraph is known canon save for why Sephiroth took Zack. Canon does not say why. Nomura has confirmed Zack means Sephiroth when he says he wants to become a hero "like another.") Sephiroth’s past is shrouded in mystery. By his mid to late teens he had emerged as a known hero and favorite challenger at Olympus Coliseum, inspiring others from across realms to become heroes too. This included Zack Fair, who came to Olympus Coliseum begging Phil to train him as a hero. Phil repeatedly refused, but Sephiroth, who had been observing all and seen Zack’s potential, decided to take matters into his own hands. He spirited Zack away from the Coliseum and proceeded to train him himself.
(This paragraph is all headcanon.) It wasn’t a moment too soon, as Maleficent soon invaded their homeworld, Radiant Garden, and overran it with the Heartless. Sephiroth and Zack fought hard to protect their world from the infestation, but no matter how many Heartless fell, more took their places. Sephiroth finally had enough and began seeking for powerful magic to get rid of them. Zack feared what such magic would do to him the more they learned of what it would take, but Sephiroth was undaunted and became more and more obsessed to find it even after learning it held the powers of darkness. Eventually he located the magic, and as Zack had feared, it took him over. Horrified, Zack tried to stop him from striking down Heartless and human enemies alike in a blind rage, but he could not break the spell. While they were distracted, Heartless surrounded them. In spite of their best efforts, Zack ended up cornered by them and fell from a cliff. The shock of witnessing that finally broke the spell on Sephiroth. He has never forgiven himself and continues to look desperately for Zack, hoping against hope that he survived somehow.
(This is the mysteriousness of canon in KH1 and KH2 with some headcanon for Sephiroth's motives to try to tie it all together.) He also eventually encountered Cloud, a young friend of Zack’s who was being swallowed up by his own darkness. Seeing in Cloud what had happened to himself, he set about trying to convince Cloud not to make the same mistakes he had. It was Cloud who first came up with the idea that Sephiroth is his darkness, and it is not explained why he thinks so. Sephiroth’s first reaction is to mock such nonsense (“Oh, I’m part of you, am I?”), but then he decides to try to milk it to make a point. Although he never actually claims to be Cloud’s darkness, he says he is Cloud as a way of pointing out their similar paths. Sometimes he presents himself as a threat and he appears to be tempting Cloud to the darkness, but he does this hoping that Cloud will have enough pride to reject the darkness and determine that he will rise above it. Mostly he points out to Cloud things about Cloud that Cloud refuses to accept, which leads to Cloud growing angry and wanting to fight. Seeing that Cloud just does not get it, Sephiroth is growing weary of the constant struggle. But even if perhaps he made a mistake in his approach, it’s too late to back out now, and their clashes continue.
Personality: This Sephiroth is a very mysterious and very strange person. While he does not appear to be insane as his counterpart sadly ended up, he goes around saying bizarre things such as that he is Cloud. Cloud seems to believe Sephiroth is his literal darkness given physical form, and in Kingdom Hearts that actually isn’t impossible. However, since Birth By Sleep lets us know Sephiroth was active ten years prior to KH1 (when Cloud was just a kid) and he was hailed as a hero whom Zack wanted to be like, it is highly unlikely he is literally Cloud’s darkness. He is, then, just a strange man with unclear motives.
He is extremely calm, cool, and collected, never losing his temper or showing surprise no matter what is happening. While intimidating in battle, he is capable of having a normal conversation without being terrifying during the course of it. He speaks with Sora, Donald, and Goofy, not being judgmental of anthro animals or a kid wielding a weapon. He has a lengthy battle with Sora after challenging him for ownership of the Keyblade—although he also says, “Show me your strength,” implying he really wants to test Sora’s worthiness. While he appears to taunt Sora off and on during their battle saying, “Give in to the dark,” he always says this prior to unleashing energy balls and it may be something he says to release them rather than literally tempting Sora, since such tempting does not appear to be part of the plot with Sora. If Sora wins, Sephiroth takes it completely in stride, dusting himself off and acknowledging Sora’s skills. He is, then, actually a good sport about losing a fight and does not hold a grudge.
With Cloud, Sephiroth almost seems to become a different person. He clearly knows and understands Cloud a great deal, telling him of things about him that Cloud does not want to accept. He also appears to be trying to drive him to turn to the dark side with some of his odd remarks (“That last bit of light is always the hardest to snuff out”), and this is definitely part of the plot and not just a command for releasing energy balls. Yet at the same time, he makes other strange comments that could have multiple meanings, such as saying defeating him is meaningless or that no matter how many times he’s defeated, Cloud’s darkness calls him back. If he is truly Cloud’s darkness, the latter comment makes no sense. He also says he isn’t going to do anything to Cloud and Cloud is the one who hungers for the darkness. He is a curious series of contradictions. He pushes both Sora and Cloud to their limits, but by doing so, he actually makes them stronger. Is he truly bad as Cloud believes, or is he a very strange mentor to both Cloud and Sora to push them to be their best? The only thing known for sure is that he is a powerful fighter and not someone to engage in battle unless you’re strong enough to take it.
Headcanoned personality aspects include a strong sense of protectiveness and a deep-rooted guilt and grief over blaming himself for what happened to Zack. Like his counterpart, he believes in logic, order, and structure, but is willing to bend or break the rules if he absolutely does not agree with said orders. He takes a great deal of pride in both his hair and his wings, albeit he doesn’t feel he deserves the wings any longer. Wings in his world are sometimes formed from strong emotions and his came from his pride as a hero. After falling to the darkness and losing Zack, he doesn’t feel worthy to be a hero anymore. However, he believes in doing what has to be done and he still gives his all to fight to protect.
Abilities: Flight, teleportation, fire powers, energy beam powers. He can make pillars of fire, bring down a very small (in comparison to FF7's Meteor, of course) flaming meteor shower in the immediate area, and throw energy balls that seem to be made of both light and dark. The Agrii may want to lessen the strength of his fire powers, although he is unlikely to use them unless they’re attacked by monsters from Hell again. I don't know if he would be allowed to teleport. I hope he would be allowed to fly.

IC:
Character name: Sephiroth
Character age as of canon point (As best as is known): 30
Canon format (Anime, manga, video game, live action TV, novel, web comic, etc.): Video Game
Name of canon: Kingdom Hearts
Canon point: Post-KH2
Is the canon point more than 6 months old in the US as far as you know?: Oh yeah
If not, as best you know it, US release date of the canon point:
Completely optional history and personality section. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO SKIP THIS!:
Please list and explain the three worst (morally) things your character has ever done:
- Continually attempted to goad Cloud into giving into the darkness, telling him the light didn’t suit him and that he’s always wallowing in the past.
- Apparently kidnapped Zack from Olympus Coliseum. Zack saw a large feather float down, said, “He’s here,” and then he vanished.
- (Headcanon to fill in a blank!) Fell to the darkness while seeking something to help defeat the Heartless permanently. Despite Zack’s protests, he kept searching and became obsessed with finding it. When he finally did find it, it took him over and he started mercilessly lashing out at Heartless and human enemies alike. Zack tried to stop him and could not, and while they were distracted, they were surrounded by Heartless. In the ensuing battle, Zack fought them while being driven backwards and eventually fell off a cliff with some of them. That shock broke the hold the dark magic had on Sephiroth and he has never forgiven himself. He still searches for Zack, desperately hoping that somehow he is still alive yet fearing he is a Heartless too.
Please list and explain the three best (morally) things your character has ever done.:
- He was considered a hero during the Birth By Sleep era, ten years prior to KH1. While we don’t know exactly what he did, it was famous enough and widespread enough that Zack aspired to be like him. This is told when he says to Terra that he wants to be a hero “like another.” Nomura has officially confirmed he meant Sephiroth. This one line is a huge game changer for this Sephiroth’s backstory, as not only does it mean he was good, it also means he was very active when Cloud was just a little kid. It is highly unlikely, therefore, that he is literally Cloud’s darkness. He’s just a man, albeit a very strange one.
- (Headcanon to fill in a blank!) When he took Zack, it was to train him as a hero after Phil still wouldn’t do it. They became extremely close and worked to protect Hollow Bastion from the Heartless.
- (Headcanon to fill in a blank!) He is actually using reverse psychology on Cloud when he’s apparently goading him. What he really wants is for Cloud to renounce the darkness once and for all. Cloud reminds him of himself when he fell to the darkness, and, unable to forgive himself for possibly causing Zack’s death, he is determined to keep Cloud from following the same path ... even though his methods are extremely unorthodox.
Please put the six things above on a timeline relevant to each other:
Being a hero - kidnapping Zack - training Zack - falling to the darkness - trying to save Cloud - goading Cloud.
Do you consider your character a hero, an anti-hero, a good aligned side kick, a bystander, a victim, a fence sitter, a mercenary, an evil aligned side kick, a villain, or something else? Why?: An anti-hero at worst, but still a noble hero at heart, even if he cannot see that in himself any longer. The actions he takes against Cloud and also Sora are to push them to be their best. He wants to stop Cloud from falling to the darkness as he did, and knowing Cloud hates him, he uses that to try to show Cloud they are alike in their feelings. Cloud fell to the dark all on his own, as Sephiroth told Sora. Cloud is the one who hungers for the darkness. Sephiroth wants to push Cloud to not want to be like him, to reject the darkness and rise above it, instead of just giving in. And he wants Cloud to make that decision on his own, without anyone like Tifa trying to influence it.
Do you think your character should start on the Isle or in Auradon? Why?: I feel he technically could fit either place. Starting on the Isle would lead to him likely trying to help the other lost souls there. He would be protective of the kids and anyone who reminds him of Zack. Yet he would probably see being sent there as confirmation that he is a bad person, as he thinks. If he started in Auradon, it could show the magic recognizes him as still good and that could lead to a lot of self-discovery and perhaps the beginning of healing. He would have better resources to try to help fix the problems, most likely, as he would throw himself into finding a solution to open the barriers, getting more stuff to the Isle, and getting everyone back where they belong.
Which of those two would you prefer your character to start in?: I would prefer Auradon, both because I like the idea of his inner goodness still recognized and I think I would have more fun playing in Auradon. And I feel like if he ends up on the Isle, he’ll probably just stay there as River has, unless he can get everyone out whom he feels deserves the better place. While I feel that is ICly what he would do and I thus wouldn’t want to go against it, OOCly I really wouldn’t want to never be able to get to Auradon.
Are you still interested in having this character in this game at this time if that preference is not met?: Probably.
Powers and Abilities: Teleportation, fire and energy blast powers. He can make pillars of fire, small meteor showers of flaming rocks, and send out energy balls that appear to be made of both darkness and light. In KH1, he teleports in and out of the Coliseum via portals he presumably makes. In KH2, he again teleports, although his portals look different there. But it’s much clearer in KH2 that he’s making them himself.
What clothing/items did your character arrive with? (See rules and FAQ for what is allowed, feel free to ask if you are unsure): His coat and shoulder armor. I would love for him to have his sword, but I doubt that would be allowed unless it’s nerfed.
Optional- What do you have to keep in mind when playing this character?: I have to remember not to give him overly complicated words. He’s serious, but not really the formal type.
What mod candy, if any, does your character bring? (Aka what elements would you really like to see us play with?): His self-worth. Although he overcame his own darkness, he still believes he is a being of darkness and that he has completely fallen from grace. I would like chances for him to prove himself still the hero he was once officially recognized as. Also, it would just be hilarious for him to react to scenarios like people randomly bursting into song a la musical.
What else do you think the mods should know about your character or their canon?: In the past, at least, there used to be some jokes about where the lower two wings are sprouting from. It isn’t quite clear since the coat hides that. I have them coming from his lower back instead of ... lower than that, and I’d rather not encounter any characters making jokes about it. I don’t anticipate any such problems, though!
